A Tradition of Class
The home of Michael Conneely, Letterdyfe stands in the heart of Connemara; on the Atlantic coast, just over a mile from Roundstone. The stud itself is a venture that has grown steadily since Michael’s first pony – Letterdyfe Chestnut – gave him a filly foal that took second prize at the Clifden Show in 1959. He carries on breeding ponies, with his wife Kathleen, his daughter Martina, and his two sons Patrick and Caillín.
Careful breeding has brought the Letterdyfe prefix international recognition, with breeders from all over the world travelling to see for themselves the fruits of six decades of patience and dedication. Study of breeding lines and qualities brought great success to the stud in 2009 – at Clifden Show Glencarraig Rose Maire took home a red rosette, Letterdyfe Rírá was awarded the title of Junior Champion, and April Rose (exhibited by Gearóid Curran) was awarded the title of Reserve Supreme Champion.
2010 saw Glencarrig Rose Marie (out of our own April Rose) take the Reserve Junior Champion spot in Clifden, and our two year-old Letterdyfe Rachel Rose was named (for the second year in a row) the Reserve All-Ireland Junior Champion at Roundstone.
